A Radiographer (Medical Imaging Technologist) is an Allied Health Care Professional who produces high quality medical images of the human body for medical diagnosis. Medical Imaging incorporates Radiography, Computer Tomography, Ultrasound and Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Career Prospects

As there is a shortage of Medical Imaging Professionals in Tasmania, and in Australia generally, career prospects are very good. Presently many countries have a shortage of trained staff, and potential for career experience overseas is thus also good.  Radiographers may be employed in public or private hospital Systems or within private organisations.

Further Study

Postgraduate study (Masters by coursework, Masters by research or PhD) are offered by a number of Universities within Australia.

Professional Development is also encouraged for practising radiographers, with many professionals completing ongoing training in specialist areas.
