High school science students from across the state experienced a workshop with a difference on Friday 6 June 2008 in the School of Human Life Sciences, Utas, Launceston.   Students interested in studying the Bachelor of Biomedical Science course were required to submit an application for a place in this specialised workshop which covered the areas of Haematology, Medical Microbiology and Clinical Biochemistry.  The full day workshop was interactive and led by Dr Murray Adams, Dale Kunde, Steve Tristram and Jane Pittaway of the School of Human Life Sciences.

The aims of the workshop were to;

  • Re-ignite an interest in science for grades 10 – 12 throughout Tasmania.
  • Provide students with the opportunity to perform laboratory tests and experiments usually done by Medical Scientists.
  • Raise awareness of job opportunities and career pathways available to Medical Scientists.

 After a full day of learning students were equipped with knowledge and information designed to assist them in making important choices for their future.
